HAMPSHIRE INDOOR ROWING COMPETITION 2010/11

The formats below will form the Hampshire Schools Indoor Rowing competitions for the academic year 2010/11. Each competition will be run in the same way as last year, expect that a Year 7 race has been re-introduced into the SSP competition.

This year all sports within Hampshire have been assigned an Olympic and Paralympic value. Indoor Rowing has been allocated Determination and Hampshire Schools Indoor Rowing Association would like to encourage schools to discuss how this value is seen/used with sport and how your team could demonstrate Determination throughout the competition.

The Competition Manager (CM) lead for Indoor Rowing, Kathryn Holland, will co-ordinate the County competition, with the local CM organising SSP competitions/virtual leagues for all year groups.

The 2010/11 Hampshire Indoor Rowing Competition will take place on Tuesday 8th February 2011 at Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh. The college competition will commence at 10am until 1pm and the SSP competition will commence at 2pm until 6pm.

Format

To enable schools to enter with teams of various ages/sexes, the individuals' achievements are measured against the 'British Rowing Olympic Gold Medal standard times', and expressed as a percentage of that time.

The overall Hampshire School Trophy will be given to the school with the top 8 percentages across the year groups.

Racing Format:

  • Individual races will follow the below categories, (preferably each SSP will send up 4 per year group, i.e. 4 boys, 4 girls or 2 boys & 2 girls, with a maximum of 20 pupils). If you do not have enough pupils to complete a team of 4, pupils can still take part in the individual competitions, which take place prior to the Team event.

SCORING

To reflect the different levels of fitness and endurance ability the standard times require different duration pieces for different age groups with different expected distances between the sexes.

E.g. a year 8 boy will row for 3 minutes and their distance achieved compared with the standard (810m) and expressed as a percentage score.
